Skip the Line: North Point Lighthouse Admission Ticket

(14)
Top Rated
Wisconsin

The North Point Lighthouse and Museum is a beautifully restored landmark and museum located between two ravines in picturesque Lake Park on Milwaukee's historic East Side. It is one of the city’s oldest structures and features a 74-foot tower and Queen Anne-style keeper's quarters. Museum exhibits and artifacts tell the history and stories about Milwaukee's lighthouses, the keepers who maintained them, and Great Lakes maritime industry. Built in 1888, the unique octagonal lighthouse guided a bustling maritime trade on the Great Lakes for almost 100 years. When Frederick Law Olmsted, architect of New York City’s iconic Central Park, was commissioned to design Lake Park, he built the grand Lion Bridges to join the north and south sections of the park—placing the North Point Lighthouse in the middle as the park’s crown jewel. North Point Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Lighthouses and the National Register of Historic Places.

Geneva Lake Shore Path: Uncover 21 miles of stories on a self-guided audio tour

(2)
Wisconsin

The shore path has been an integral part of life on Geneva Lake for hundreds of years – and because it’s rich in history and uniquely accessible to the public, there are 21 miles of stories along it. Let me share my favorites with you on this self-guided GPS walk. You'll find out how some of the owners of the incredible lakeshore estates made their fortunes and were able to build such magnificent homes. These titans of the beer, washing machine, chewing gum and even bicycle industries took refuge here after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, while the city was rebuilt, in the process they made Geneva Lake one of the Midwest’s favorite vacation destinations. This tour covers the entire Geneva Lake Shore Path. You can start and end it at any point and come back to it as many times as you like. Whether you go for a long walk or a short one, there are plenty of restaurants and bars to relax at when you get back to one of the three lakeside towns.

Guided Bevans Mine Tour

(4)
Wisconsin

Your underground adventure awaits! The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums is located in the heart of the Driftless Area between Madison, Wisconsin, and the Mississippi River, surrounded by hilly farm country. A guided tour from May to October also includes the underground 1845 Bevans Lead Mine and a ride through campus in a 1931 mine train. Museum exhibits document the history of Platteville and rural life in this nook of the Driftless, and especially the history of lead and zinc mining in the Upper Mississippi Valley mining district — the place that Mississippi Valley Type (MVT) deposits are named for. These limestone-hosted lead-zinc deposits created a famous Lead Rush in the 1820s that led directly to Wisconsin statehood and earned Wisconsin the name "the Badger State." The zinc minerals sustained the region through the two World Wars until the 1970s. The mining industry and UW-Platteville is the reason Platteville Mound sports the world’s largest “M” commemorating this heritage!
