One of the most spectacular destinations in our epic road trip, the Horseshoe Bend hike is only 15 min drive from Page, AZ and is a 1-mile hike to this amazing view. The horseshoe bend is facing west, which makes it a perfect spot to view sunsets, and they are spectacular! (Although you would be shooting directly into the sun at this time). The added bonus is that unlike at sunrise, the sun does not cast a shadow over the Colorado river at sunset. Get an ultra wide angle lens so you can capture the entire bend in one shot. If you’re a landscape photographer, a tripod and an ND filter will come in handy to wipe out the ripples in the water.
Expect a lot of crowds at the horseshoe bend hike no matter which time of day you go. This is one of the most visited spots in the area! And because it is so close to town, and so easily accessible, people come here in bus loads (literally!). Despite the crowds, and the scramble to get that perfect selfie shot without venturing too close to the edge, it is a must visit iconic destination in the Glen Canyon area.
